Golden State Accordion Club Scholarship Information

Mission Statement  The Golden State Accordion Club Scholarship Awards may be given annually to accordion/button box players based on their effort, progress, enthusiasm, need, and talent.

Purpose  The purpose of this fund is to encourage players and potential players to improve their musical skill and further their interest and enthusiasm for the accordion/button box.  The award may be used for lessons, musical camps, classes, instrument purchases, etc.

Amount and Number of Scholarship Awards  The award requirements, number, and amount will be decided on by the scholarship committee with the approval of the participating location's Board of Directors.  If there are no applications, there will be no awards given that year.  The scholarship committee, however, will have the option of recommending special category awards.

Scholarship Fund  The scholarship fund will be replenished annually up to a minimum balance set by the boards contributing to the scholarship fund.  Proceeds will come from raffles or other local fund-raising projects.  If the raffle does not earn the necessary revenue to replenish the scholarship fund, the general fund from each participating location will be used to maintain this minimum balance.

Possible Applicants  To qualify for a regular scholarship award a person must be a club member or be sponsored by a member in good standing.

Timing for Applications and Awards  Applications will be available in February and should be returned no later than the April meeting.  Winners will be announced at the May meeting.  Winners are eligible to apply for and may receive a scholarship award each year up to the age of 18.

Judging Applications  The applications will be judged on the following for each applicant:

  • Talent, progress and enthusiasm for the accordion

  • Financial need

Responsibility for Scholarship Program  The Local Presiding Presidents and the scholarship committee will notify the memberships of scholarship dates and procedures, distribute the application forms starting in February, collect these forms no later than the April meeting, check application forms for completeness, and make recommendations to the club's participating Board of Directors.  The Board of Directors will make the final decision on the scholarship award winners.
